Grunge Rock Camp See All Times
August 11, 2025 - August 15, 2025
Students need to bring a lunch daily, except on the Friday, when we will have a pizza party and a show performance.
Here are some FAQs on the camp that will make you familiar with our policies and practices for a rocking good time.
Q: Does my child need to bring their own instrument or are instruments provided?
A: Drums and keyboards are provided, but guitar and bass players should bring their own instrument and picks. Drummers should bring drumsticks. All students should also have their own instrument to practice at home, unless the camp is listed as a “beginner” camp in which no instrument(s) are necessary.
Q: Does my child need to bring a lunch or snack? Is any food provided throughout the day?
A: Each student needs to bring their own lunch and water daily. We suggest that students pack snacks as well, except for on Friday, when Pizza will be provided for lunch.
Q: Can I send treats to share with the other campers?
A: No. This is a nice idea but we want to avoid contact with any allergies or possible airborne allergens.
Q: What does an average day of SOR camp look like? Do they play music ALL day long?
A: A typical day at camp involves games and small group lesson sessions, as well as the group rehearsals. Please see attached sample schedule.
Q: Do the students need to have any musical experience or will you teach them at camp?
A: Students need to have at least some experience with their instrument. You can also sign your camper up for lessons prior to camp to help prepare! If the camp is listed as a “beginner” camp, no experience is necessary.
Q: Where does SOR camp take place?
A: Our camps all take place at our School of Rock locations. The School of Rock Libertyville is at 225 East Park Avenue, Libertyville.
Q: What ages of students attend camp? Will there be someone close to my child’s age?
A: We have a wide variety of ages. We believe that students should gain experience learning from and interacting with students of different ages, backgrounds and abilities. We tend to always have a few students in each age bracket, so students are seldom the ONLY 16 year old or ONLY 9 year old. But each camp is different, and like Rock and Roll, unpredictable.
Q: Who are the Instructors/Staff?
A: Our instructors are real working, professional musicians. They are chosen not only based on their qualifications, but also how they can relate that to the students. Student safety is our top priority. All staff are background checked and trained in School of Rock safety practices.
Q: What is the Student:Instructor ratio?
A: We have 5:1 staff to student ratios at all camps. This one’s going to be heavy on the instructors.
Q: How can I contact my child in the case of an emergency?
A: Please contact us at our regular phone numbers, 847-497-0219
Q: What happens if we can’t make it to camp one/multiple day(s)?
A: We ask that your child attend all 5 days of camp because they are a large part of the entire set list. There are no partial refunds due to days missed.
Q: Are parents allowed to take audio/video recordings during camp?
A: No. But you can take audio/video recordings during the show at the end of the week.
Q: What should my student bring to camp?
A: Guitar and bass players should bring their instrument in a case with a strap, picks, an extra set of strings and a tuner. Drummers should bring two set of drum sticks. All students should bring ear plugs, water bottle (labeled with student name), lunch/snacks, a folder or binder and a good attitude.
Q: What are some things NOT to bring to camp?
A: Please do not allow your child to bring any toys, trading cards, dolls, personal electronic devices, etc. Anything that might distract them should stay at home. We do not take responsibility for any broken or lost items.
Q: What are your drop-off and pick-up policies?
A: Please drop off between 9am and pick up after 3pm. We have lessons that start shortly after camps so we appreciate your punctuality, but we are also OK with the camper hanging out in our lounge for a bit, as well.
Q: Can another parent or friend pick my child up from camp?
A: If you wish to have another parent or family friend pick up your student, please email us ahead of time.
